LineDrivers Flexing Muscle

After several years of underachieving, the Lochside LineDrivers look poised to walk away with a first place finish as the season slowly draws to a close. Old Man has been proving many critics wrong as he has effortlessly worked his way through the 2005 FlutterBall schedule. The team's owner believes that he has lost a few steps over the years, but she was quick to point out that his eyesight continues to improve as he has a good eye around the plate and is known to draw plenty of walks from his opposition.

This past weekend, Old Man mounted a furious late inning comeback against the BeanBallers of Burlington. Three runs down in the last half of the third, Old Man flexed his muscle pounding out three homeruns, the last a grand slam to win the game. Craziness was in disbelief of the comeback, assuming that the hot weather had withered the strength of his competitor.

In his second match-up, Old Man used his arsenal of off-speed pitches to subdue the FireBallers by a score of 5-3. BoomER claimed that he would have won the game outright if he had used his sweeping curve early in the game. His reluctance to go away from his screwball and fastball was the difference as Old Man deposited three balls over the fence to bring his league leading total to 22 homeruns.

In the finale, BoomER burned the BeanBallers with a pitching clinic. He needed no help from his fielder recording three automatic strikeouts and spreading pop-ups and grounders the rest of the way. Craziness declined to comment on his performance.

Old Man confidently heads into the final weeks as the league leader. A disgusted BoomER managed to secure second place after this past weekend. Craziness was out of sync all day walking plenty of batters.

Major Changes Expected For 2006 Season

Lengthy meetings have been held over the past month between the various members of the Board of Governors with regards to the state of the game. The main issue revolves around the idea of revamping the entire outfield of the diamond as several members believe it warrants a new look. The possibility of pushing back the the wall has been discussed repeatedly but must be addressed along side another ancillary issue of creating a more acceptable FlutterBall. Due to manufacturing miscalculations during the production of the ball, players have been forced to adapt to a variety of game balls throughout the season. Craziness has insisted he is in favor of a more fuller ball that travels slightly further and allows the pitcher a better grip. The FireBallers firmly believe that the ball issues should be resolved before any major changes are to be made to the playing field.

The Fabulous Fenwick FlutterBall field is in it's eight season of existence and has served the league very well but it has show several signs of structural weakness particularly after this past winter season. Others also believe it just needs a new look. New fencing may be needed as well as a make-over to the wooden wall that advertises the FlutterBall website. The Board of Governors are sure of one thing, that they will make the right decisions that will not change the integrity of the game. The new look will give fans a fantastic venue for the start of the 2006 season and will carry all the modern amenities for players, media and visitors. The estimated financial cost of such a transformation is unknown but it is speculated that the FlutterBall Board of Govrnors coffers are more than able to pay for the changes.
