FlutterBall™ Board of Governors unanimously agreed to make major upgrades to the Fabulous Fenwick FlutterBall Field. Significant monies were spent re-surfacing the batters area with high impact-absorbing padding and new artificial turf, insuring that league players will continue playing injury free for years to come. The league purchased new line-making equipment to insure that consistent and easy to see foul lines are always in place. A brand new temperature display was added to keep teams aware of game conditions. The board also agreed to a new highly visible field name, upgraded outfield champion signs, upgraded extended foul poles, and a brand new centre field fan amusement-batting target along with the re-painting of the entire facility with high quality enamel, to bring back new life to every corner of the park.

FlutterBall™ Board of Governors consented to the construction of an official FB storage unit by the batter's box. All teams have the right to store their game-day equipment throughout the season under lock and key. This enables the league to maintain the current pace of league games without any lengthy delays as equipment will no longer be stored in the clubhouse. The Board of Governors also unanimously agreed to commemorate previous years champions with their own outfield signs. It is a constant reminder to fans of the heritage and history behind the sport.

FlutterBall™ Board of Governors introduced a new lighting system to slowly incorporate night games to the regular season schedule. Several exhibition games were played with great success, however, league officials are still tinkering with the lights. With high humidity during the day games, teams expressed their interest in playing night games in cooler conditions. The FB Clubhouse serves as a refuge for the teams during those hot summer days.

FlutterBall™ Board of Governors unanimously agreed to reconstruct the pitchers mound. The mound is made up of crushed stone with the centre raised to a height of 3 feet. The pitching rubber is solidified in a poured concrete base which ensures a firm push off for the pitcher. The outside edge of the mound has been fashioned using 2x4x2 inch patio stones as to preserve its distinct shape.

FlutterBall™ Board of Governors voted 3-1 in favor of upgrading the batter's box to a astro-turf carpet with a crushed stone base. A green (durable) outdoor carpet was installed using an innovative wooden frame. Crushed stone was laid down beneath the carpet  to form a smooth and safe foundation for the batter.

FlutterBall™ Board of Governors voted unanimously in favor of  the construction of a permanent steel strike zone with a special strike out pocket. A plexiglass front was instituted so that fans of the game would not have an obstructed view of any pitch delivered to the batter and that critical games could be taped.

1998 Fenwick FlutterBall™ Field Photos

Fenwick FlutterBall™ Field was constructed in the early spring of 1998. The outfield wall was designed having a 20ft wide (8ft high) wooden wall measuring 108 ft dead centre from home plate. The remainder of the wall stretching to the foul poles (100 ft from home plate) is made of a 4 ft high steel fence with a protective tubing on the top. The foul poles stand 24 ft high. The batter's box was first designed using concrete slabs. The pitchers mound was a flat dirt patch. The backstop was engineered to stop any balls that may fouled back. The original strike out zone was portable and had a specially designed strike out pouch. Foul lines were burnt into the grass to clearly mark the playing field. A scoreboard was created to keep track of scoring and other vital game stats.
